    Easy tour of Vipava valley

    (Family cycling tour of Vipava valley)

    This cycling route takes you along the Vipava river, where you can enjoy the tranquillity and even go for a swim on a hot summer day. On the way back stop at Vipavski Križ for refreshments. The route is also suitable for children, as it does not contain many steep climbs. On the main road take a left turn into Batuje industrial zone, where a sign directs you. Continue along the macadam road along the railway. When you cross the Vipava river for the second time, you will see several natural pools along the way, where you can stop. From the village Male Žablje you can extend your trip by visiting BIKE|STOP|ENJOY point Darovi Vipvaske, which is a perfect stop for refreshments and a break. You can easily return to Saksida resort by following back the same road by the railway.

    E-bike tour of Vipava valley

    (Cycling circuit of Vipava Valley – suitable for electric bikes)

    This slightly longer trip takes you through the valley of river Branica, from where you ascend to Vipava Valley. An astonishing view over the valley’s vineyards to Nanos, Čaven and Gora awaits you. On the way back to the resort you will cycle on country roads and experience some of the most beautiful corners of our valley. We recommend making a stop at the bike point Hiša posebne sorte in Kodereti village, paying a visit to village Goče, a BIKE|STOP|ENJOY point for refreshment: Molendini Summer Bar in Manče village, as well as visiting Darovi Vipavske in Vipavski Križ. The trip is more varied and a real pleasure on electric bikes.

    E-bike tour of Karst

    The cycling trip takes you to Karst, which is famous for its stone, wine Teran and prosciutto. The trip begins by ascending over the pass Železna vrata (Iron door pass), which offers an astonishing views over the valley, all the way to the Alps. Once you conquer the slope, a calm cycling through the kasrt villages awaits you; here you will be able to admire the skill of stonemasons shows in the authentic karst architecture. Following the side roads and macadam paths you will arrive in the village of Štanjel; which deserves some time to explore and to refresh yourself. The only thing still awaiting you is a descent to the Branica valley and an easy cycling back to Saksida resort. Since the trip is quite varied, an electric bike is most suitable for it.

    E-MTB tour Cerje

    This challenging MTB tour will award you with great views from the Alps to Adriatic sea! Route takes you mainly on gravel and forest roads and requires some off-road riding experience. On the way you`ll stop at monumental Cerje tower, have a rest & snack in the village of Komen and visit a castle Rihemberk on the way back to the resort. A fantastic tour for electric mountainbike!

    Vitovlje – a source of mysterious energy
    Due to its steep incline, this exceptionally picturesque cycling tour is suitable for better prepared cyclists, and is accessible to almost everyone by e-bikes! Vitovlje opens one of the most beautiful views over the Vipava valley. On a beautiful sunny day you may even see all the way to Venice!

    The Karst loop with Štanjel old town
    Meet the old town of Štanjel! Cycle through a beautiful green valley and climb to beautiful Karst hilltop village. Meet the wild side of Karst landscape on the way through tiny countryside villages, known for its tradition of drying Karst prosciutto! On the way back to Camp Saksida, you may also visit Rihemberk Castle above the village of Branik. This tour is of medium difficulty, you`ll need a good pair of legs or an E-bike to really enjoy it!

    Gorizia hills and emerald Soca river
    A real road cycling gem!!! If you`re riding a road bike, the tour of choice should be Gorizia hills! Great views, quality roads and little traffic! This micro-region is often called a Slovenian Tuscany and you are soon about to discover why. It`s hilly, it’s amazingly beautiful and covered with vineyards! When leaving Gorizia hills behind, have a look at the emerald Soča river and the biggest single-stone-arch bridge in the world!

    There are several water sports also available to choose from. In the vicinity of the village of Zalošče flows the Vipava river, which, with its more leisurely flow, provides a unique experience in a tranquil way. Boating or stand-up paddling are suitable for the whole family. Those who enjoy a more adrenalin-filled experience will prefer the Soča river, the wild beauty, which offers its rapids for kayaking, whitewater rafting or canyoning. Both rivers offer many opportunities for fishing, while fisherman can also visit the Vogršček reservoir for additional fishing.

    The diverse terrain of the Vipava Valley with its rolling hills, steep slopes and stunning views will impress every walking enthusiast. There are many walking routes of various difficulty levels where you can take in all the beautiful attractions of the Vipava region, its many natural and historical sites and friendly people.
    Mt. Šumka Trail
      starting point: Branik, car park at the supermarket Mercator latitude: 45.860863533 longitude: 13.786083441 point of destination: Mt. After 300 metres turn left towards Cvetrož. Go across the bridge over the river Branica and turn left and then immediately to the right. Go along the road as far as the railway bridge where a path towards Pedrovo begins. Go up the path and under the stone spans of the railway bridge. After a kilometre walk you get to a cart road where you turn right. Continue for 1.5 km until the path joins another one and turn left. Go on until you reach the village of Pedrovo. Take a stroll around the village and visit the church in the middle of it. From the village there is a great panoramic view of Branik and the Upper Vipava Valley. Take the cart road on the right and turn left at the crossroads at the top of a ridge. Proceed for a kilometre, turn right into a rough cart road and walk on until you reach the top of Mt. Šumka (533 m) where you can take a look at the prehis-toric stone tumulus. Return the same way, at the crossroads turn right and walk along the gravel road for a kilometre. Turn left and descend to the regional road Branik–Komen. Continue along the asphalt road for 300 m. At the junction, take the cart road on your left. Continue downwards to the bridge of the asphalt road Branik–Komen. If you turn right on the asphalt road, you get to the medieval Rihemberk Castle. You can visit the castle during opening hours or upon prior booking. If you decide to skip the castle, turn left on the bridge of the Branik–Komen road and after 50 metres turn right onto a dirt road that descends towards Branik. On your left, you can admire Rihemberk Castle. If you look down, you can see the Branik settlement with its church at the top of the village and the railway with several stone bridges. The asphalt road will take you back to the beginning of the trail.  
    Trail Across The Vineyards

    At the bus station of Zalošče, where there is also an Information board with a hiking trail map located, is the starting point of the well-tended and marked path that meanders between the vineyards, olive groves and peach tree orchards. The route is approx. 4 km long and not demanding, thus appropriate to all age groups – all you need are suitable shoes and goodwill. The trail enchants with views on the intact nature, on the Vipava River and the surounding villages Zalošče, Tabor, Dornberk, Gradišče, Prvačina; and to the north on the villages Osek, Vitovlje, Šempas, Šmihel, Lijak. Along the route the nearby fish pond »Zaloški bajer«, that has been formed by the Vipava River, can be visited. After the river regulation and the melioration of the Vipava Valley such places, these remains of the former riverbed, are the last refuge of numerous plant and animal species which were very common in the past.

The trail from here leads in the direction towards east, through the hamlet Arčoni and across Mt. Rabatovec up to the settlement Gradišče nad Prvačino, where the Slovene poet Simon Gregorčič, called the »Nightingale of the Goriška Region«, lived and created, and where he twenty-one years long said mass. This tour is intended for single visitors as well as for organized groups and runs past vineyards with beauti-ful views on the Lower Vipava Valley. In clear weather one might even see the Julian Alps.  

    The Vipava Valley offers the perfect conditions for paragliding and hang-gliding. Looking down on the Vipava Valley from up high in the air is a magical and unforgettable experience. If you are not an experienced flier, you can go with a professional in a tandem. A test of bravery is jumping off the bridge into the Soča river. There is also the Soča fun park to enjoy, located right by the river. The adventure begins by crossing the river in a raft, then trying out different climbing and other activities, which all lead up to the grand finale – ziplining down a 300m steel wire, 40m above the river’s surface back the left bank. The steep slopes and rock faces around the Vipava Valley and in the neighbouring gorges are home to some outstanding walls that attract climbers. The mild climate makes it possible to go climbing up the pleasantly warm rock even in winter, while you can exchange these for shady rock walls in the gorges in summer.
